The City of Irvine has broken ground on a 110,000-square-foot indoor gymnasium facility at 17300 Red Hill Ave. in the Irvine Business Complex. The gym will be built on a 7.3-acre site and will include 10 multi-use courts, 10 badminton courts, a multipurpose room, office spaces, a food court, and 369 parking spaces.

The facility is intended to address the City's need for indoor recreational space and will be operated as a public gym for various sports activities, tournaments, and community events.

Summer 2024: Approval & Purchase Process

  • City Council approved the gym purchase (August 13, 2024).
  • Execution of Purchase and Sale Agreement (PSA) with Lincoln Property Company (LPC).
  • Environmental assessment contingency period (completed: September 3, 2024).

Fall 2024 - Winter 2025: Pre-Construction & Permitting

  • LPC modifies building permits to accommodate gym construction.
  • Finalization of base building design and site plans.

Spring - Fall 2025: Base Building Construction

  • Construction begins on the 110,000-square-foot base building.
  • Completion of the base building shell (mid-to-late 2025).
  • Potential early closing incentive: If escrow closes between August 1 - November 1, 2025, the City receives a $10,000 per day purchase price credit.

Winter 2025 - Spring 2026: Tenant Improvements & Finalization

  • Installation of gym flooring, lighting, scoreboards, and sports equipment.
  • Environmental insurance policy transfer to the City.
  • Final inspections and City approval.

Summer - Fall 2026: Opening & Operations

  • Gymnasium opens for public use.
  • Facility available for city-run programs, sports organizations, and community events.
