Arts in Irvine will open two new exhibitions at the Irvine Fine Arts Center Saturday, November 14, with an opening reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Featuring Juan Manuel Gomez: En Lo Profundo / In the Deep and All Together!, the exhibitions bring together distinct artistic perspectives on resilience, creative expression, and the experiences that shape individual and collective identity. Both exhibitions will remain on view through January 23, 2027.
Juan Manuel Gomez: En Lo Profundo / In the Deep
Artist Juan Manuel Gomez presents new and reworked mixed-media sculptures that explore how deconstruction can help navigate uncertainty and challenging moments. Constructed from materials such as industrially processed metals and heavy-duty plastics, the works evoke structures of protection and refuge while acknowledging the fragility of contemporary life. Through the tension between strength and vulnerability, Gomez considers creative expression as a means of finding shelter, adapting, and enduring in an increasingly challenging world.
All Together!
This exhibition celebrates the role of art and shared experiences in shaping cultural identity and belonging. Rooted in collective celebration and inspired in part by the nation’s recent 250th anniversary, the exhibition brings together artists working in animation, design, fine art, illustration, and textiles. Their work explores joy across a spectrum of experiences, from large-scale festivals to quieter moments of everyday life.
Co-organized with public historian Cynthia Castañeda and artist and independent curator Melanie Walden, All Together! examines the relationship between celebration and resilience within Southern California’s diverse cultural and artistic communities. Exhibiting artists include Rockee Armendariz, Patrick Ballesteros, Rosy Cortez, Jonah Elijah, Jeanette Floyd, Eva Grello, Justin Paszul, Crystal Rodriguez-Leal, Briar Rosa, Willis Salomon, Edwin Ushiro, kalynn vidaure, and Xiaoxiao Wu.
Together, these exhibitions offer visitors opportunities to engage with contemporary art through different perspectives, from Gomez’s exploration of vulnerability and refuge to the collective expressions of joy, culture, and community presented in All Together!
