The City of Irvine, in partnership with the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, will host the sixth annual Mid-Autumn Festival at the Great Park Friday, September 25, from 5 to 9:30 p.m. This free, family-friendly event invites the community to enjoy an evening filled with rich cultural traditions, festive performances, and interactive activities.
The Mid-Autumn Festival — also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival — is one of the most celebrated holidays across Asia, with roots in China and similar traditions in Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and other countries in East and Southeast Asia. Dating back over 3,000 years, the festival has long symbolized unity, gratitude, and prosperity.
This year’s celebration once again blends elements from various Asian cultures, featuring more than a dozen musical and dance performances and several culinary demonstrations. Guests can discover the artistry, stories, and traditions that make the Mid-Autumn Festival a meaningful holiday for many communities, while exploring savory meals and sweet treats from more than 20 food vendors, browsing offerings from local merchants, playing mahjong, and learning the art of Chinese paper cutting. There will also be children’s crafts and activities, as well as night market games.
