The Jeffrey Open Space Trail (JOST), the product of extensive community input and consensus, is a unique resource for the residents of the City of Irvine. This open space corridor constitutes an important element in the City's overall open space system, linking the conservation and open space lands within the City. The trail currently stretches 3.5 miles through the City of Irvine.
Funds from a $14.5 million state budget allocation presented to the City by Senator Dave Min in August 2021 will allow the JOST system to be completely built out. The 1.5-mile extension will run from Barranca Parkway to the 5 Freeway, and will link existing bike and pedestrian trails, include a 15-foot-wide bridge stretching almost 1,200 feet over Interstate 5, and connect the coastline to the Santa Ana Mountains and Cleveland National Forest.
