42nd Irvine Annual  Opens July 11

The Irvine Annual juried exhibition showcases artworks from California artists ages 18 and older who work across multiple visual artistic mediums. The Irvine Annual exhibition will be held at the Irvine Fine Arts Center July 11–September 5 with a free opening reception from 2 to 4 p.m.

This year’s exhibition brings together work in painting, sculpture, photography, fiber, and mixed media, along with material-based practices that push familiar forms in new directions. Across the selection, artists explore how images and objects are built, how materials carry meaning, and how process shapes interpretation.

Together, the works offer a broad view of contemporary art today — diverse in approach, grounded in experimentation, and connected through a shared interest in how form and material interact.

Irvine Annual will be on view through September 5.

About the Jurors

  • Stephen Anderson is a Southern California–based multidisciplinary artist and curator whose work in in assemblage, collage, and text-based forms examines how personal experience, social expectation, and collective mythology intersect. Anderson has exhibited in over 150 shows across the United States and abroad, including in Japan, South Korea, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, and Italy. His work has appeared at venues such as SCOPE Miami Beach, LA Art Show, Torrance Art Museum, Irvine Fine Arts Center, and the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, and has been featured in publications including the Los Angeles Times, Artillery Magazine, and Visual Art Source.

  • Virginia Broersma is a Los Angeles-based artist whose paintings focus on health and leisure practices with a nod to Southern California. In addition to her studio practice, her engagement with the art community involves curating, writing, collaborative projects, public art, and advocacy. Her paintings have been exhibited at museums, galleries and alternative spaces in Los Angeles, Berlin, Tokyo, New York, and Chicago among other US and international cities. In 2018, Broersma founded The Artist’s Office to help artists with the “office work” of being a professional artist. To date, she has organized and led over 30 unique workshops, written a column for the Long Beach Post, and collaborated with independent consultants, artist entrepreneurs, institutions and colleges to offer education and support for artists.

  • Cecelia Caro is a curator, arts administrator, and advocate reshaping cultural engagement within arts nonprofits. She joined Angels Gate Cultural Center (AGCC) in San Pedro 2019. As Director of Exhibitions, she has transformed the exhibitions program into a vital platform for marginalized voices and experimental practices, significantly elevating its visibility within the Los Angeles arts landscape. Caro's leadership extends beyond AGCC: she has served as a juror for MOAH: Cedar, public art panelist for the Department of Cultural Affairs, City of Los Angeles, and led the West Harbor Waterfront public call for art.
