Orange County Great Park to Once Again Host U.S. Solar Decathlon

IRVINE, CA (Aug. 12, 2015):  The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon returns to the Orange County Great Park for its 2015 competition, to be held October 8-11 and October 15-18 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Solar Decathlon challenges collegiate students from across the country and around the world to design, build and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient and attractive. This is the second time the prestigious competition will be held at the Great Park; the 2013 contest drew 64,000 attendees.

Irvine Animal Care Center Names New Manager

IRVINE, CA (August 12, 2015):  After a nationwide recruitment, the City of Irvine has appointed J. Kevin Hertell manager of the Irvine Animal Care Center. Hertell comes to the City with more than 30 years of experience working with animals. Since 2010, Hertell served as the Executive Director of the Second Chance Center for Animals in Flagstaff, Arizona. There, he oversaw a staff of 20 and a volunteer corps of 125.

Volunteers Sought for U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon

IRVINE, CA (August 3, 2015):  Join the growing number of volunteers signing on to assist with the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, to be held at the Orange County Great Park on October 8-11 and October 15-18. Volunteers are needed to serve as docents, greeters, visitor liaisons, Education Day mentors and more. Some 64,000 guests visited the Great Park in 2013, the last year in which the competition was held, underscoring the need for a strong volunteer force to ensure a successful event.
