Irvine Police Department to Conduct Sobriety Checkpoint

Irvine, Calif. (December 2, 2024) – The Irvine Police Department (IPD) will conduct a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driver’s License checkpoint as part of the Department’s continued commitment to reducing injuries and deaths caused by impaired drivers. The checkpoint will be conducted on Saturday, December 7, from 7:00 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the area of Culver Drive and Walnut Avenue.

City Council Swearing-in Ceremony

The community is invited to the City of Irvine’s swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected City Councilmembers Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 6 p.m.

Councilmembers-elect William Go, Melinda Liu, and James Mai, along with Councilmember Mike Carroll and Vice Mayor Larry Agran, who have both been re-elected, will be sworn into office for their respective terms. 

Bowerman Landfill Informational Meeting

Orange County Waste & Recycling is holding a meeting regarding the proposed Renewable Natural Gas Facility at Frank R. Bowerman landfill. The meeting will take place Wednesday, December 4, at 6 p.m. at Portola Springs Community Center. The project will convert the landfill gas that is currently being flared into renewable natural gas that will supply the SoCalGas pipeline. 

This approach captures and beneficially uses over 90% of methane and reduces site emissions. The plant will be constructed within the existing landfill site.

After an extensive and competitive recruitment process, the City of Irvine has selected Julie Zeoli as its first Librarian, a significant step in establishing a new Library Services division.

Zeoli comes to Irvine from the City of Yorba Linda, where she was Assistant Library Director and played a key role in the development and opening of the award-winning Yorba Linda Public Library in 2020.

New Art at City Hall Exhibition Explores a Masterful Blend of Tradition and Innovation

The City of Irvine is honored to announce the opening of the new Art at City Hall exhibition, Minna Chow: Traditional Chinese Brush Painting. The exhibition, opening Friday, December 13, features works by Irvine artist Minna Chow, who breathes life into the natural world through the ancient art of Chinese brush painting. A free opening reception with the artist will be held Tuesday, December 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Irvine City Hall.
