More than 40 pet rescue groups and animal shelters will bring more than 600 homeless dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals for adoption. This annual event features vendors, gourmet food trucks and a bake sale, a silent auction, and low-cost microchipping. Each animal is spayed or neutered, microchipped, and evaluated by a veterinarian. Cats and dogs are vaccinated appropriate to age.

Suggested donation for the event is $2 per person or $5 per family; parking is free. Leashed and vaccinated dogs are welcome. 

Los Olivos Community Park Dedication Event

The public is invited to the grand opening of Los Olivos Community Park. The event will take place on Saturday, March 2, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The event will showcase the new 12.5-acre park, which features lighted baseball and soccer fields, a lighted basketball court, four tennis courts, and a musical-themed playground inspired by the former Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre. In addition, the 6,700-square-foot community center will feature a large multipurpose room, warming kitchen, and patio area.

Irvine Ranked No. 1 in Latest Fiscal Strength Survey

The City of Irvine in 2019, for the second straight year, has been ranked No. 1 in fiscal strength. The Truth in Accounting ranking of America’s largest 75 cities calculated how a city would fare financially after all the bills are paid. Irvine was given a surplus score of $4,400 per taxpayer, earning the distinction as the most fiscally healthy large city in the United States.

Irvine Children, Youth and Families Advisory Committee Seeks Applicants

The City of Irvine is accepting applications to fill two community member-at-large vacancies on the Irvine Children, Youth and Families Advisory Committee (ICYFAC). Comprised of 15 members, the ICYFAC is an advisory body to the Community Services Commission and provides ongoing review and evaluation of programs and services that support the development of Irvine children and youth.

The Irvine Child Care Project, a joint power authority between the City of Irvine and the Irvine Unified School District, is requesting proposals from licensed nonprofit child care providers interested in operating a child care program at Loma Ridge Elementary School beginning August 22, 2019.

Irvine Police Department Arrests Suspect Tied To String of Residential Burglaries

A foot pursuit Wednesday ended in the arrest of a suspect tied to at least nine residential burglaries in Irvine. Ismail Luqman Wasi, 20, of Irvine is suspected of breaking into homes in University Park and other areas, sometimes while residents were at home. The Irvine Police Department has recovered much of the tens of thousands of dollars of property Wasi stole since his spree began in December.
