Trick or Treat at the Lakeview Senior Center in Irvine

Your little ghouls and goblins are invited to the Lakeview Senior Center for a morning of trick-or-treat stations, snacks, and activities. Trick or Treat at the Senior Center is Friday, October 26. Tours last approximately 30 minutes; drop in between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Drug Take Back Day

The Irvine Police Department (IPD) will be participating in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Community members can drive up and drop off unwanted medications at two designated locations in the City of Irvine.

This free service, which allows the public to anonymously discard prescription medications, addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. The participating sites are:

Enjoy a cup of coffee and a conversation with a member of the Irvine Police Department. This free event allows residents to meet with police in a relaxed, casual atmosphere. See the Great Park Balloon Transformed into Iconic Jack-O-Lantern Face

The community is invited to watch as the iconic Orange County Great Park Balloon is transformed into a jack-o-lantern face on Tuesday, October 2. Balloon pilots are lifted by a large crane to attach black vinyl tarp pieces to the Balloon’s sides, creating a jack-o-lantern face affectionately known as “Jack.”

City’s non-toxic Effort – Farm Bill Changed to Protect Cities

Under Mayor Pro Tem Christina Shea’s leadership, the City Council’s Organic Pesticide Use policy has now been successful for more than two years, setting a national standard. The City Council has opposed Congress’s Farm Bill section 9101 that would likely have pre-empted cities’ abilities to adopt their own pesticide regulations. In December 2018, under pressure from cities such as Irvine, that section was removed to protect local rights to control pesticide use. Efforts to get to this point are reflected in the links, below.

Great Park Balloon 'Jack' Installation

Watch as the iconic Orange County Great Park Balloon is transformed into a jack-o-lantern face on Tuesday, October 2. Balloon pilots are lifted by a large crane to attach black vinyl tarp pieces to the Balloon’s sides, creating a jack-o-lantern face affectionately known as “Jack.” There is no cost to watch the Balloon’s transformation, and guests are welcome to enjoy other Great Park amenities open that day, including the Farm + Food Lab and lawn areas. The transformation is scheduled for 9–11 a.m., but could be delayed to the evening if winds are too strong.
