The Orange County Registrar of Voters is mailing ballots for the November 3 General Municipal Election to all registered Irvine voters, marking the start of the voting period.

All Irvine voters will have the opportunity to elect a Mayor for a two-year term, and residents in Districts 1, 5, and 6 can elect a Councilmember to represent their district for a four-year term. Voters can find their District by visiting cityofirvine.gov/yourdistrict (Open in new window).

Measure D
The ballot also includes Measure D, a proposed ordinance that would implement ranked-choice voting for Irvine Mayoral and City Council elections after January 1, 2028, if approved.

Ranked-choice voting, also known as “instant run-off”, is an election method in which voters rank candidates in order of preference rather than select a single candidate. If no candidate receives a majority after first-choice votes are counted, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, and their votes are redistributed to their next ranked choice. This process continues until one candidate receives a majority of the votes.

Ballots can be returned by mail — no postage required — or at a secure ballot drop box (Open in new window) anywhere in Orange County from October 5 through November 3 at 8 p.m.
