The City of Irvine has three municipal gallery spaces:

Contemporary and cultural exhibitions present work from local, regional, national and international artists with curated themes designed to attract a diverse audience.

All locations accept exhibition proposals, which are reviewed on an annual basis. The exhibition schedule is set 12–24 months or more in advance of exhibition dates. Exhibitions, parking, and receptions are free and open to the public.

First Day of Spring is Today
Opening Reception: March 7, 2–4 p.m.
Exhibition: March 7–May 16

First Day of Spring Is Today, a group exhibition, draws inspiration from the spring season’s regenerative potential through paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and mixed media. As daylight begins to linger a little longer and the color and warmth of the twilight hours change, we collectively embark on a new cycle of possibilities. Works on view include fiber sculptures that give new life to weathered materials, mixed-media paintings that lean into the beauty of subcultural aesthetics, and others whose forms and sensibilities take inspiration from facets of contemporary art, graphic design, and fashion. As a collective, the works on view evoke a sense of revitalization, pleasure, and possibilities — not unlike those of a new season.

Exhibiting Artists: Amanda Benefiel, Matthew Carter, Cheyne Ellett, Edgar Fabián Frías, Curtis Stage, and Angie Stalker

Sergio O’Cádiz Moctezuma: In Process
Opening Reception: March 7, 2–4 p.m.
Exhibition: March 7–May 16

Over five decades, Sergio O’Cádiz Moctezuma significantly shaped the cultural landscape of Orange County through his work as a studio artist, architect, and muralist. His ability to navigate multiple realms of creative production — from innovative approaches and muralism to landscape-defining architectural projects and works on canvas and paper — defies simple categorizing. O’Cádiz's unique experience as a Mexican-born artist living and working in Orange County during the 1960s through the 1990s imbues his personal and artistic story with important nuance and complexity that resonate today. Sergio O’Cádiz Moctezuma: In Process presents a glimpse into the artist’s personal and professional complexity, revealing stories and processes that shaped a pivotal figure in the history of Orange County. The exhibit features artist ephemera, archival sketches of realized and unrealized works, sculptures, and select drawings and paintings.

This exhibition is part of the 2026 Hyper SoCal initiative, which brings awareness to nonprofit and municipal art venues supporting working artists in Southern California. Additionally, Sergio O’Cádiz Moctezuma: In Process is one of several exhibits that will be held at various institutions throughout the year as a celebration of the artist’s legacy. Other exhibitions will take place at Crear Studio in Santa Ana and Cerritos College. For more information on Hyper SoCal, Crear Studio, and Cerritos College’s Art Gallery programming, please visit their official websites.
