Irvine, CA (Nov. 5, 2015): New Chief Mike Hamel was sworn in today as Chief of the Irvine Police Department (IPD). Chief Hamel is a 22-year law enforcement veteran who has been with IPD since 1995. He is the first Irvine Police Chief to rise through the ranks from police officer to Chief from within the IPD organization.

Irvine, CA (Nov. 6, 2015): The Irvine Police Department (IPD) has been awarded a $421,592 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for special enforcements and education efforts to keep roadways safe and prevent traffic-related deaths and injuries.

IRVINE, CA (November 6, 2015): “Finding Peace Amid Holiday Chaos” will be the discussion presented by keynote speaker Tanya Brown at the 34^th Annual Irvine Community Thanksgiving Prayer Breakfast, to be held November 19 at the Irvine Marriot Hotel. Tickets for the 7:30 a.m. breakfast, presented by the City of Irvine, the Irvine Chamber of Commerce and the National Exchange Club, are $45; proceeds benefit the Child Abuse Prevention Center.

IRVINE, CA (Nov. 6, 2015): Scholastic chess players will have the opportunity to put their skills to the test at the 40^th Annual Staser Fall Scholastic Chess Tournament, presented by the Orange County Great Park in collaboration with Hanley Chess Academy and American Chess Equipment. Registration closes Nov. 12 for the event, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Hangar 244 and the Artists Studios at the Great Park.

In observance of Veterans Day, a number of City of Irvine facilities will be closed Friday, November 10.
