California landfills remain the third-largest source of methane emissions in the state, contributing to twenty percent of the state’s total methane emissions. Organic waste makes up half of Californians' total waste in landfills.

In an effort to ease odor reports throughout the City, an Odor Complaint Form has been added to the City website and the City app, Access Irvine. ​

To report an odor, open Access Irvine and click on How Can We Help or visit cityofirvine.org/HowCanWeHelp.

There you can report the day, location, odor description and source if identifiable, weather conditions, whether you have experienced any symptoms, and any other details. Please note that if you suspect a gas leak, you should call SoCal Gas at 1-800-427-2200.

The City of Irvine  is in the process of drafting a Residential Beekeeping Ordnance to permit beekeeping as an accessory use in single-family residential properties.

On January 13, the City of Irvine celebrated the community-wide launch of the Cool Irvine program — a climate "moonshot" to reach carbon neutrality by 2030. Irvine is one of three cities, along with Los Angeles and Petaluma, that will each receive $1 million to support the Cool Block neighborhood program and develop a climate moonshot strategy — an ambitious, exploratory, and ground-breaking approach to reach community-wide and inclusive sustainability.
