In honor of the City’s 50th anniversary and as part of the City’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiative, the City of Irvine and South Coast Chinese Cultural Center are collaborating to offer the We Are Irvine: Living Resource Guide Series for Chinese-Irvine Newcomers, in Mandarin.

Join for the second lecture in the series October 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. via Zoom.

New Irvine Police Department Chief Michael Kent Sworn In

Police Chief Michael Kent was sworn in today as Chief of the Irvine Police Department (IPD). Chief Kent is a 19-year law enforcement veteran who has served the City of Irvine since 2002. He is the first Irvine Police Chief to grow up in Irvine and rise through the ranks from police explorer to Chief.

City of Irvine Sports Committee Accepting Applications for Two Members-at-Large

The City of Irvine is accepting applications to fill two volunteer member-at-large vacancies on the Irvine Sports Committee. The committee is composed of representatives from Irvine’s youth sports organizations. It provides the City Council and the Community Services Commission with input and feedback on policies, programs, facilities, and the needs of the Irvine youth sports community.

Irvine Police Department Investigating Fatal Traffic Collision

A 61-year-old woman has died from injuries sustained in a traffic collision. 

This morning at approximately 4:11 a.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to a traffic collision between a Toyota Prius and Mercedes-Benz C300. The collision occurred at the intersection of Sand Canyon and Irvine Center Drive.   

One driver, Kyu Chen, a 61-year-old resident of Irvine, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of OCFA and medical personnel, she died at the hospital.

Fall Exhibitions at Irvine Fine Arts Center Begin October 16

The Irvine Fine Arts Center announces the opening of two new fall exhibitions: Manos and I Shot an Arrow. The exhibitions run concurrently Saturday, October 16–Saturday, December 18. A free opening reception with the artists is Saturday, October 16, 2–4 p.m., and is open to the public.
