A special community meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, will provide an update on the nation’s largest parkland project of 688 acres including the 194-acre Sports Park; the state’s largest Community Ice Facility; and ask those who attend to provide input about still-to-be-built segments of the Orange County Great Park.

The public is invited to attend as Irvine Mayor Donald P. Wagner, delivers his State of the City Address on Feb. 14 in the Council Chamber at the Irvine Civic Center. The event begins with a reception at 5 p.m., followed by the Mayor’s address at 6 p.m.
The public is invited to a community ice facility groundbreaking at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Orange County Great Park. An Anaheim Ducks affiliate and the City of Irvine will co-host the ceremony to begin construction of one of the largest public ice facilities in the U.S. The grand opening will be in 2018. Sunset Magazine’s Cover Story for February ranked Irvine as one of the “Best Places to Live 2017” in highlighting its “20 Western Dream Towns.” Irvine received high marks from the editors for its bike lanes and trails, low crime rate, robust economy, a multicultural population and the emerging Orange County Great Park.
Other cities on the list included: Reno, Nevada; Santa Rosa; Ventura; Provo, Utah; Boise, Idaho; and Scottsdale, Arizona.
Marc Joffe, Director for the California Policy Center, which oversees the California Transparency Project, has released a nationwide study that places Irvine No. 1 among major cities in fiscal strength.
The Fiscal Health Index, published in The Fiscal Times, ranks 116 American cities with a population of more than 200,000. Irvine received a perfect 100 score.
Five factors were used to rank cities:
