The community is invited to the City of Irvine’s Swearing-in Ceremony for its newly appointed Councilmember, Michael C. Carroll, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, at the Irvine Civic Center.
Councilmember Carroll fills the vacancy that was created when former Councilmember Christina Shea succeeded to the Office of Mayor, following the election of former Mayor Donald P. Wagner to the Orange County Board of Supervisors in March.

The Irvine Animal Care Center will host its 13th annual Super Pet Adoption event Sunday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than 35 pet rescue groups and animal shelters are expected to bring more than 500 homeless dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals for adoption.
The annual event features dozens of pet-related vendors, gourmet food trucks, a bake sale, a silent auction, and low-cost microchipping. Cats, dogs, and rabbits available for adoption are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and evaluated by a veterinarian. Cats and dogs are vaccinated appropriate to age.

The 25th annual Studio Arts Festival will be held Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Irvine Fine Arts Center. The juried festival will feature handmade artwork from more than 100 Southern California artists. Original works of art in ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, painting, photography, fiber, and glass will be for sale.

The newly opened Great Park Trails feature 1.5 miles of walking and biking space throughout the Upper Bee and Bosque area. These trails include decomposed granite pedestrian trails that are 4 feet to 6 feet wide, as well as an 11-foot-wide concrete multiuse trail and bike path. Learn More

The City of Irvine is hosting two Memorial Day events to pay tribute to America’s fallen: the Northwood Memorial Candle Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, May 26, and the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park on Monday, May 27. City Council votes 3-1 at May 14 Meeting to Fill Council Vacancy
Tonight at the Irvine City Council Meeting, Mike Carroll was appointed by the City Council to fill the current Councilmember vacancy. Candidate interviews were conducted earlier this afternoon by the City Council at its special meeting, and later at its regular meeting, a 3-1 vote was reached to appoint Mr. Carroll to the City Council.

A man who was caught taking pictures underneath a woman’s skirt has been arrested following an investigation by Irvine Police Department Detectives. Nathan Martin Haley, 45, of Portola Hills turned himself in to police last month.
