Groundbreaking Moves Ice Facility Forward

Three hundred guests celebrated the joint groundbreaking Thursday of the future Community Ice Facility with City of Irvine and Anaheim Ducks officials.

The 280,000-square-foot facility, to hold four sheets of ice, will be the largest in California and one of the largest in the country when it opens to the public in 2018 at the Orange County Great Park.

Green Ribbon Environmental Committee

The City of Irvine is accepting applications to fill two community member-at‑large vacancies on the Green Ribbon Environmental Committee. Comprised of 10 members, the Committee is an advisory body to the City Council and provides advice on sustainability policies related to energy, recycling and waste management, mobility, open space and water issues.

Applicants must live or work in Irvine and be willing to commit to a voluntary two-year term of active participation. Committee meetings are held quarterly with the next meeting scheduled for May 2017.

Irvine Police Seek Suspects in Commercial Burglaries

Irvine, Calif. (Feb. 14, 2017) – The Irvine Police Department is seeking to identify suspects in two commercial burglaries that occurred over the weekend. The same three suspects stole a total of $500,000 worth of goods from two Irvine businesses located in the east industrial area of the City.

On Feb. 11, a high-end sunglass company was burglarized around 7 a.m. The suspects drove a white van into the roll-up door and used a crowbar to force entry into the warehouse. The suspects stole approximately $400,000 worth of merchandise.

Garden Workshops Blooming at the Great Park

The Orange County Great Park is in bloom with its Winter/Spring Garden Workshop series beginning Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Great Park’s Farm + Food Lab. The Garden Workshops, developed in cooperation with the University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners of Orange County, features instructions from gardening experts on sustainable home gardening practices. The Garden Workshops will take place on select Saturdays from 10-11 a.m. All workshops are free to the public, along with take-home project activities on select dates for an additional fee.
