Irvine Police Department to Conduct Sobriety Checkpoint

Irvine, Calif. (August 9, 2024) – The Irvine Police Department (IPD) will conduct a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driver’s License checkpoint as part of the Department’s continued commitment to reducing injuries and deaths caused by impaired drivers. The checkpoint will be conducted on Friday, August 16, from 7:00 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the area of Great Park Boulevard and Sand Canyon.

Irvine, Calif. (August 9, 2024) – A man has died after being struck by a vehicle as he sat in lanes of traffic.
 
This morning, at approximately 12:43 a.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) received reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.

Irvine Police Investigating Murder of University Park Resident

IRVINE, Calif. (August 8, 2024) – The Irvine Police Department (IPD) is investigating the homicide of a 72-year-old Irvine resident.

This afternoon, at approximately 2:51 p.m., IPD dispatch received a call regarding a man chasing a woman with a knife on Green Tree Lane. Officers quickly arrived and observed the male attacking the female with a knife. When the officers tried to intervene, the suspect advanced towards an officer and an officer-involved shooting occurred. A knife was recovered at the scene.

Groundbreaking Held for Irvine Animal Care Center Expansion and Renovation

The City of Irvine highlighted its commitment to providing a safe, clean, enriching, and caring environment for animals awaiting adoption during a groundbreaking ceremony Monday, August 5, for the Irvine Animal Care Center expansion and renovation project.
